Codes, Standards & Regulations (“CSR”) - Working Group >>

Over the last decade, regulators and firms around the world have been striving to improve and optimise the framework describing expected employee conduct and behaviour in financial markets.

This working group will look at the respective roles which codes, standards and regulations should play in providing this framework.   Lessons might be drawn from past failures and successes both within financial services and in other industries or walks of life.  The group’s solution should posture to work in a global context, taking account of the limitations of national regulators and allowing for the challenge and opportunity of human cultural diversity.

 

The purpose and activity of this working group is to:

  • Define and explain the different respective roles of, and interactions between, codes, standards and regulations
  • Explain why codes, standards and regulations are all needed in financial services
  • Seek feedback from members’ own networks and CFA contacts
  • Publish a short paper based on its framework and findings
  • Create a launch event and webcast to publicise the paper

Fund Objectives, Benchmarks & Performance Fees - Working Group >>

Last week the FCA built on the groundwork of its Asset Management Market Study (“AMMS”) and launched Consultation Paper 18/9 (https://www.fca.org.uk/publication/consultation/cp18-09.pdf). 

CP 18/9 seeks to canvas views on some further remedies proposed by the FCA specifically in the area of (i) fund objectives and (ii) the use of benchmarks for (a) marketing funds, (b) measuring historic and projected fund performance and (c) calculating performance fees. 

This working group will be tasked with authoring CFA UK’s response to CP 18/9 by 5 July, 2017.

 

The purpose and activity of this working group is to:

  • Author a response to the FCA on CP 18/9 on behalf of CFA UK, specifically addressing the five questions in Annex 1 of the paper and also any other related issues
  • Canvas views and opinions from members’ own networks and CFA contacts, possibly using a formal survey
  • Create a webcast to publicise the findings of the paper

CFA UK Gender Diversity Network [GDN] Committee Member >>

The mission of the CFA UK Gender Diversity Network is to improve the investment management profession by promoting gender and diversity balance in the industry. Our current focus is diversity within asset management sector to ensure we make maximum impact with our work.

To ensure that we have sufficient resources to implement our refreshed strategy over the next 1-3 years, and increase our membership in line with our goals, we are keen to continue to strengthen the GDN Committee to include a further two members.

Current members

We currently have 14 Committee members, including a Chair and two Vice Chairs from a variety of different backgrounds.

Who we are looking for:

To complement the existing Committee members, we require highly engaged, action oriented and diverse individuals to join the Committee. 

  • Experience within the asset management industry and in particular with skills and experience in Marketing, Communications, PR, Social Media
  • Either experienced individuals, in positions of influence and with strong personal and professional networks
  • Or those earlier in their career who are actively engaged in improving diversity within the industry
  • We are keen for more men, plus individuals with a multi-cultural background and/or who are LGBT to bring their important perspective to the Committee

 

What will you do:

  • Committee members typically volunteer their time for a term of one year, and be asked to continue for a maximum of three years
  • commit to attend quarterly Committee meetings and contribute to the discussion and action
  • be willing to take minutes as required
  • commit to active contribution to deliver the strategy including events, taskforces, creating content and other group responsibilities
  • use your networks to identify potential speakers and hosting venues

Over the past few years the CFA UK has run a number of events to help members understand the wide range of careers that are available to CFA’s. The “Working In “ series has asked successful practitioners across a wide range of roles to talk about their career paths, what their role entails and what skills and attitudes you need to be successful in those roles.

Our goal is to continue to provide interesting and stimulating events and online content that helps our members understand the range of career opportunities they have and we would like your help in setting the agenda for the next 6 months and support identifying the speakers and topics that are of general interest to our membership. You will be supported by the Careers Committee and staff members from the CFA Society of the UK.

The purpose and activity of this working group is to:

  • Assess the career types that would be of most interest to the membership in the next 6 months
  • Bring new format ideas and speakers to tackle those topics.
  • Look at how to maximise the use of the content from the events and find complementary content to use on the Careers Centre
  • Engage in reaching out to potential speakers from your network
  • Develop an executable plan to achieve all key deliverables

Who are we looking for:

  • Volunteers with an interest in helping members make informed career choices
  • Volunteers who would like to curate relevant content for the Careers centre and potentially write blog posts around their area of expertise.
  • Availability for around four meetings, a few conference calls and ability to work on Basecamp.
  • Ability to work with a group to shape ideas.
  • Understanding of what would interest our members.
  • Interest in leading/hosting an event.

How CFA UK will help:

CFA UK will work out all logistics for the events, webinars and posting the content online.  We can contact speakers where they are not known to the working group.

The CFA UK’s Career development and soft skills events are some of the most popular and heavily booked events in our programme. Our goal is to continue to provide interesting and stimulating events and online content that covers the essential soft skills that our members need to succeed in their careers.

CFA UK’s Wednesday Webinars at One have become a routine and popular event, which engage our Members successfully through the element of learning. Our goal is to attract larger numbers listening in and reach further into our member community with new and innovative web learning.

We need fresh ideas, new points of view and constructive critique from volunteer members to make WWO relevant and a more attractive learning tool for our members.

We would like your help in setting the agenda for the next 6 months and support identifying the speakers and topics that are of general interest to our membership. You will be supported by the Continuing Education Committee and staff members from the CFA Society of the UK.

The purpose and activity of this working group is to:

  • Bring new ideas, new speakers in a variety of topics to make the WWO more dynamic.
  • Bring more balance to the product offering
  • Critique the current webinars and offer suggestions for improvement
  • Engage in reaching out to speakers

What are we looking for:

  • Volunteers that have logged onto in the least three CFA UK webinars in the last twelve months
  • Availability for one meeting, a few conference calls and ability to work on Basecamp
  • Ability to work with a group to shape ideas
  • Understanding of what would interest our members

How the CFA UK will help:

CFA UK will work out all logistics to make the webinar viable.  We can contact speakers where they are not known to the working group.

Working Group Mission:  To ensure that the member feedback is effectively analysed and circulated so that appropriate actions can be undertaken to resolve areas for improvement, where feasible.

The purpose and activity of this working group is to:

  • Produce a detailed analysis of the results of the 2018 CFA UK Member Survey.
  • Produce a presentation of the 2018 CFA UK Member Survey to different stakeholder groups, i.e. CFA UK Board, CFA UK Committee Members and CFA UK Members.

What will you get out of it?

  • Networking, meeting other like-minded members
  • Enhance knowledge of CFA UK services
  • Demonstrate creative problem-solving and project skills
  • Make an important contribution to fellow members

What to expect next

Once we receive your volunteer application form, your skills will be assessed by the team for suitability for the role and may involve a short phone call.

Your CV will be passed to the Committee Lead for approval

If approved, you will be asked to complete a Volunteer Agreement along with a Non Disclosure Form

And then you can begin your Volunteering journey with CFA UK.

 

CFA UK Ambassador >>

CFA UK’s Ambassador Programme promotes and encourages employee engagement in CFA UK activities within Ambassador firms. Ambassadors work to promote professionalism, education, integrity and high ethical standards within their organisations through the promotion of our work and activities, and by driving internal employee engagement.

Joining the programme can be an effective way to build your professional network. The programme provides a unique platform for engagement and our Ambassadors benefit from visibility within their firms, as well as externally across CFA UK’s extensive network. 

It provides a unique opportunity to contribute to CFA UK member engagement and strategy as well as to develop your own skills and experience.

CFA UK Ambassadors should:

  • Be an active CFA UK member
  • Have 4+ years financial markets experience
  • Be committed to promoting the benefits of CFA UK membership
  • Have been employed at their firm for at least 12 months
  • Work within a medium/large firm with 10+ colleagues already CFA UK members or enrolled on the CFA Program
